The Art Motor Story

Racing with Friends – our motto has adorned our racing and training events for more than three decades. We have always celebrated and lived fair, fine, and friendly interactions on the most beautiful racetracks in Europe. Wolf Töns and Dorle Knospe, our caring and honest founding parents, probably did not expect back in 1995 that the journey of their child Art Motor would last so long and gain such significance beyond the racing scene. But Wolf and Dorle had a keen sense in 1995 for what the German hobby and amateur sports scene was missing: Hardcore racing among friends, without putting too much strain on the wallet – and especially for everyone.

The starting signal was marked in Belgian Zolder with one of the first brand races for amateurs: The Triumph Speed Triple Cup. The overwhelming resonance at that time was incredible – finally, there was a cup in the German-speaking area with manageable regulations, low costs, and no absolute high-end weapon needed for exciting and intense motorsport. Dorle and Wolf remained committed to the philosophy of a brand cup and a strict focus on pure and fair motorsport until the end. Over the years, championships like the Aprilia RS 250 Cup or the Trofeo Ducati joined the Art Motor portfolio, laying the foundation for what is today understood as hobby racing – not just with us. We have not only focused on championships for hot, cup-worthy motorcycles but have also had a heart for classics from the very beginning. Today, classic motorcycles play a vital role in the TT SuperclassiXs Championship or the Classic Endurance, providing not only fantastic motorsport on the track but also wide-eyed excitement off the track.

We are particularly proud of a unique partnership with the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, founded in 1997. Since the first groundbreaking at Germany's most popular racetrack, we have been part of the scene and annually host three major events in the Magdeburger Börde. Our Oschersleben triple of Zünd in the May, Festival Italia, and Biketoberfest are among the most well-known events in the racing scene and represent tradition.

But besides all the motorsport for amateurs, there has always been another passion of ours: A training opportunity for everyone who wants to try riding on the track and feel like a racer at least once. Our training offerings under professional leadership are considered some of the most popular in the country. Here, everyone can get a taste of the racing atmosphere under the highest safety precautions and polish their skills with professional instructors. Therefore, we established the Sportbike Academy, one of the first training opportunities for absolute newcomers to the racetrack – it has always been our significant concern to alleviate the fear of a big racetrack for everyone.

But that's not all: We see ourselves as pioneers of endurance sports. In 2001 at the Salzburgring, Art Motor conducted the first endurance race for hobby pilots. A nice anecdote: This was where the Yamaha Austria Racing Team was also founded, which has since won the endurance world championship. Our passion for endurance sports is still part of our DNA, which is why we have been holding the Bridgestone100 endurance championship in cooperation with Bridgestone since 2015. All of this and much more, Wolf Töns and Dorle Knospe built almost from scratch and have shaped the racing scene like no other. Until their passing, Wolf and Dorle were passionately involved, and with Art Motor, they have not only established a simple provider of track days but created a racetrack safe space for ambitious racers, newcomers, and professionals, unmatched in Germany. Racing with Friends – then and now.

Art Motor Today

That the spirit of Art Motor should continue even after the death of our founding parents was as certain as the Amen in church. But it was clear from the beginning that no business people should take over the venture, but rather people with passion, expertise, and plenty of gasoline in their blood to carry on and expand the legacy of Wolf and Dorle. Fortunately, these racing nerds were quickly found: Since 2022, Michael Schulz has been serving as the managing director at Art Motor.

Michael has been deeply rooted in the scene for years and is not only knowledgeable about motorsport but also excels in organizing, planning, and executing racing trainings. With the track day event office SWITCHevent, founded years ago and still active, Michael learned the business with speedy customers from the ground up. The northern light also served for years as Wolf's and Dorle's extended arm at Art Motor, meticulously checking on the well-being of customers and racers in the paddock.

But Michael is not alone: He is supported by Luca Sammet. Luca is also no newcomer in the racing scene; he has been active for many years on and off the racetrack and knows exactly what racing customers want. But what Michael and Luca primarily want is: Happy and satisfied faces, a great camaraderie, and joy in motorsport – in keeping with the motto “Racing with Friends”.
